hi Reader,
Something has been bothering me for the last couple of years..
The more senior leaders i worked with, the less one explanation made sense.
Many of them came to me believing they had a communication problem.
They wanted to become more confident speakers, communicate more clearly or stop feeling so nervous in important meetings.
That seemed reasonable until I noticed a pattern...
Some of the people struggling the most were also the most knowledgeable.
They had years of experience.
They understood their work inside out.
They had already solved the problem before they walked into the room.
Yet, when it was time to explain their thinking.. something changed:
Their mind went blank.
Their thinking became harder to organize.
They started talking in circles.
After the meeting.. they knew exactly what they wished they had said.
i kept asking myself the same question...
If this were simply a communication skills problem, why did it happen so often to people with so much expertise?
The explanation didn't fit what i was seeing.
It led me to rethink almost everything i believed about confidence, public speaking and high-stakes communication.
Over the next few weeks, i'd like to share where that question led me.
Before i do, i'd like to ask you something:
Have you ever walked into a meeting knowing exactly what you wanted to say, only to lose access to it once everyone was looking at you?
If that has happened to you, i'd love to hear about it.
Just hit reply and tell me what happened.
i read every reply and i'd like to hear your experience.
